Welf ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal data processed through this service. Contact: privacy@getwelf.com
2. Data We Collect
- Account data: email, name, language preference, timezone
- Usage data: selected news sources, briefing history, bookmarked items
- Voice interaction data: text transcripts of your voice questions (audio is NEVER stored — it is processed in real-time and immediately discarded)
- AI responses: answers generated during your sessions
- Analytics data (with consent): page views, session duration, feature usage
3. How We Use Your Data
- Service delivery (contract): generating briefings, answering questions, storing preferences
- Service improvement (legitimate interest): understanding usage patterns, improving AI quality
- Analytics (consent): PostHog analytics, only activated after explicit consent
- Marketing (consent): emails about new features, only with explicit opt-in
4. Third-Party Processors
- Supabase (EU): database, authentication, file storage
- Anthropic: AI text generation (Claude API). No input/output data retained by Anthropic under commercial terms
- ElevenLabs: text-to-speech generation. Text processed in transit only
- Deepgram: speech-to-text. Audio processed in real-time, not stored
- Tavily: web search for deep dive feature
- Google Cloud (EU): application hosting (europe-west1 region)
- PostHog (EU): analytics (consent-gated)
5. Data Retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active
- Briefing sessions and interactions: 12 months, then automatically deleted
- Deep dive cache: 7 days
- Voice audio: NEVER stored. Processed in real-time and discarded
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
You have the right to:
- Access: download all your data (Settings > Privacy > Download my data)
- Erasure: delete your account and all data (Settings > Privacy > Delete account)
- Rectification: update your profile information at any time
- Portability: export your data in JSON format
- Withdrawal of consent: manage analytics and marketing consent at any time

We use:
- Essential cookies: authentication session (always active)
- Analytics cookies: PostHog (only with your explicit consent)
